To say this is a rare car would be an understatement with most estimates being that over 50% of them are no longer on the road or drivable, leaving less than 1500 in the world today.
This Particular car was bought on April 4, 1997 from MBS auto sales located at 8423 S. Alameda Ave., Los Angeles California 90001 and sold to the very well-known independent Volkswagen center, German auto repair located at 670 S. La Brea Ave. in Inglewood California 90301 for $1030.90.
The car had been stolen and stripped for parts prior to the sale and the insurance company didn’t want to repair it in 1997 so they totaled the car out.
The car sat at the German independent Volkswagen Center in Inglewood while it was being repaired; at times being used as a loaner car for the repair shop until it’s ultimate sale to local Culver City resident Mr. Anthony Biggins for $7000 on November 19, 2002.
Mr. Biggins Proudly owned his last year 1974 Karmann Ghia convertible as his daily driver from the time he bought it until his wife’s health issues arose in 2019. After the car had been parked for almost 2 years with only a weekly drive to keep it’s mechanical going, Mr. Biggins sold his beloved Karmann Ghia Convertible to a fellow Karmann Ghia enthusiast Mike Miller on November 6, 2021.
Mr. Biggins had previously met Mike Miller about eight years prior in Hollywood California, on Sunset Boulevard, when he ventured up to look at one of Mr. Miller’s restored Karmann Ghia convertibles which was for sale at JEM motors.
Mr. Biggins was meticulous about the care for his beloved Karmann Ghia and had it regularly serviced repaired and tuned up and that’s reflected in how well the All original 1600cc dual port Powers the car. Repair receipts exist for almost 20 years in the name of Mr. Biggins at reputable and local Volkswagen repair shops in Inglewood and nearby Downey.
We have many of the original registration slips as well as some receipts for buying parts from the well-known Karmann Ghia parts and restoration in Ventura California.
